Grace Engel is a handweaver and multi-disciplinary artist based in Asheville, NC. She is a 2021 graduate of the Haywood Community College’s Professional Craft program in Fiber, where she began exploring production methods in weaving, specifically using CompuDobby looms. She particularly enjoys using these types of looms because they allow her to pursue complex patterning without compromising the speed of her weaving. After graduating, she acquired one of her own and began tirelessly weaving large, cocoon-like Wrap Scarves. These products, which she developed as part of her graduation project, embody some of her favorite qualities about weaving: pleasing marriages of color play, simple design, and a soft, warm hand to the fabric.

In addition to growing her business as a weaver, she works as an assistant to dyer and weaver Kathrin Webber. Before pursuing craft professionally, she prioritized attending artist residencies and participating in craft shows and exhibitions with paintings, drawings and fiber pieces. Grace has had the pleasure of teaching workshops over the past few years on visual and fiber arts. Her work can be found at select local stores in Asheville, NC.
