Lost Wax Casting (Day 1 of 4)

This class meets for 4 Days
Students must attend ALL 4 Days:

Thursday, September 24th - 6:00-9:00PM
Friday, September 25th - 6:00-9:00PM
Saturday, September 26th - 11:00AM -2:00PM + 3:00-6:00PM
Sunday, September 27th - 11:00AM -2:00PM

Please wear closed toed shoes + if you wear reading glasses, please bring them.

Lost-wax casting is a fascinating, hands-on process where you start by sculpting a design in wax, which acts as a temporary model. It is a meditative, almost sculptural art of carving your design from a block wax, stick of soft wax or sticky sculptural wax. In class you will focus on learning the basics to shape, shave, and smooth the wax using small tools, gradually refining every curve, texture, and detail. This wax model becomes the heart of the process, capturing every mark you make. When your model is finished, the wax is then encased in a plaster-like mold and melted away—“lost”—so molten metal can be poured in to take its place. During this class, you’ll get two casting days and plenty of wax carving time. It’s creative, a little magical, and incredibly satisfying to see your idea transformed into something metal you can hold.
